Law Of Attraction Songs - Sunny Side Of The Street By Dorothy Fields
It’s one of the best Law of Attraction songs. It was the early 1930s and the Great Depression had brought a dark and heavy mood to the United States. At that time, a young lady who had begun to achieve some moderate success in songwriting for Broadway, not only wrote a song that would become famous, but would declare that more important than circumstances is the positive mental attitude that we decide to hold and present to the world. Most singers leave out the beginning of the song and start with the catchy refrain. However, the song was meant to present a before/after situation that establishes the dark mood that so many were feeling until a new way of thinking and living was discovered: Walked with no-one and talked with no-oneAnd I had nothing but shadowsThen one morning you passedAnd I brightened at lastNow I greet the day, and complete the dayWith the sun in my heartAll my worry blew awayWhen you taught me how to sayWhen I first read those words I was “worried” that the song was about someone feeling great because of a romantic relationship (not that I don’t like that). I was hoping that the attitude later described was something that came from within the “singer’s” mind and not just a romantic feeling. It was. It became to me the favorite of my Law of Attraction songs. The other person taught our “Hero” a new attitude. What was it that our “Hero” was taught to say? Here it is: Grab your coat and get your hatLeave your worries on the doorstepJust direct you feetTo the sunny side of the street
The lyricist was Dorothy Fields, who wrote other famous songs such as I’m in the Mood for Love, I Can’t Give You Anything but Love, Big Spender, the Oscar winning The Way You Look Tonight, as well as a number of others. Her take responsibility for yourself attitude came through in this great example of Law of Attraction songs. If you take some time and read about her at a great site, it becomes clear that she was a positive, strong-minded lady who lived this song.
Can’t you hear a pitter pat?And that happy tune is your stepLife can be so sweetOn the sunny side of the streetIn following verses, the song once again presents a before/after situation that implies that fear is a great limiting factor in our thinking as well as the importance of making a decision and taking the steps toward right thinking: I used to walk in the shade with them blues on paradeNow I'm not afraid... this rover’s crossed overNow if I never made one centI‘d be rich as RockefellerGold dust at my feetOn the sunny side of the streetOne way to prosperity is first having a mindset of prosperity. When you see value in the world around you, seeing people and circumstances with hope, you are building your fortune. When you decide to be a happy, enthusiastic person, you have developed a powerful and precious resource; one that can never be taken away by any recession or turn of events. This wonderful example of Law of Attraction songs tells us that abundance and prosperity is actually an attitude that is up to you; a choice that you make daily, if not moment by moment. It tells us that happiness, as well as the power to generate happiness is like gold! I challenge my readers to “cross over” to the sunny side of the street. Stop letting circumstances, the weather and moods affect you - YOU HAVE TO SET THE PACE! Let the weather be “inside” you! Once you begin to see and feel how you can determine your happiness, it is an incredible sense of strength, stability and power. Believe me, you will be amazed at what you will be attracting! A wonderful rendition of The Sunny Side of the Street can be found YouTube. Unlike most, all the verses are included in this rendition: Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us.Earl NightingaleFor those who would like to hear a more “sassy” Fields’ song, try Big Spender. Dorothy Fields wrote songs that expressed her attitude in life. The Law of Attraction is about much more than attracting things you want. It starts with an attitude that you will create the reality in which you will live; you have that power. Hers are wonderful examples of Law of Attraction songs. I’ll close with a quote from the great site I already mentioned. This was a recollection from Jonathan Schwartz, son of Arthur Schwartz, a later collaborator of Dorothy Fields: Dorothy was very empathic and sympathetic to a young teenage boy alone, and she was very kind. I always felt Dorothy's warmth toward me. My father and I often took long walks in the city. and whenever we found ourselves in the shadows, one of us would always say "Let's cross over to the Dorothy side of the street."
